Tatted square, frivolitee-ruutu

This has fast become one of my favourite tatting motifs. It’s a pattern by Mary Konior, apparently a household name in the tatting world. I find it very pretty, with its round of four-leaves in the middle and the two corner rings forming a circle when the squares are joined together. I’m using a mercerized crochet cotton (needle size 1,25-1,5 mm) and each square measures just under 6 cm. 4×4 squares might be just the right size for a little handbag – if I don’t get carried away and decide to make a lace top!

Tämä on yhdysvaltalaisen käpypitsin uusijan, Mary Koniorin ruutumalli, jonka löysin Pinterestistä. Se on vähän omituisen näköinen yksittäisenä mutta kun yhdistää kuvioita niin myös kulmiin muodostuu kauniit kahdeksan renkaan ympyrät. Lanka on Novitan merseroitua virkkauslankaa jolla kuvion kooksi tulee hieman vajaa 6 cm. Neljä kertaa neljä kuviota olisi juuri sopiva pikkulaukun koko, mutta saattaa olla että innostun ja valmistan esimerkiksi pitsitopin!

I counted the stitches from a photo on Pinterest and got:

R 7-5-5-7, R 7+5-5-7, R 7+5-5-7, R 7+5-5-7 TW

CH 14-6, R 7-5-7 TW, CH 5+5-5 TW,  R 7+5-7, CH 6-14 TW.

Repeat this three more times starting with the 4 consecutive rings but remembering to join the first and the second ring to the correct picot of the previous round. While making the last four-leaf remember to join the third ring too to the second ring of the first set of leaves! The squares are joined together with four picots on each side.

R = ring, CH = chain, TW = turn work, – = picot, + = joined picot

Kuvasta laskemalla sain yllä mainitun kaltaisen ohjeen. R=rengas, CH=ketju, TW= käännä työ. + merkkien kohdalla työ kiinnitetään edelliseen nirkkoon. Ohje tehdään neljä perättäistä kertaa ja kuvasta selviää miten nirkot yhdistyvät: nelilehdykän ensimmäinen ja toinen rengas kiinnittyvät kuvion edelliseen neljännekseen ja viimeisen nelilehdykän kolmas rengas pitää muistaa kiinnittää ensimmäisen kuvion toiseen renkaaseen. Kuviot yhdistetään reunoistaan neljällä nirkolla.
