Crocheted purses, virkattuja pikkulaukkuja

Just finished this pretty little handbag to go with my turquoise gear. It was the first time I fixed a metal frame to a bag.  This crocheted pouch cover has been waiting a long time to be framed, so one less UFO (UnFinishedObject) in my stash!

Ensimmäistä kertaa kokeilin metallikehyksen kiinnittämistä laukun reunaan. Sopivilla työkaluilla se onnistui aika hyvin ja sain kauniin pikkulaukun vedenvihreiden vaatteitteni seuraksi.

I’ve made quite a few little bags with about the same simple crochet pattern. The green one has a zipper sewn to the top, the purple one I gave up on as it didn’t quite work on top of a slightly tatty old handbag. I also have one in off-white and a black one which my daughter has been putting to very good use.

Here you can see the pattern: alternate rows of 1-3 chain stitches with 3 or 5 double crochet in the middle, and then 5/7/9 trebles into the loop created by the chain and one double in the middle stitch of the row below.

Malli on yksinkertainen. Joka toisella rivillä virkataan 1-3 ketjusilmukkaa vuorotellen 3:n/5:n kiinteän silmukan kanssa. Seuraavaan riviin tulee 5/7/9 pylvästä ketjuun ja yksi kiinteä silmukka keskimmäisen alemman rivin  kiinteän silmukan päälle. Mallia voi kokeilla eri silmukkaluvuilla langan paksuuden mukaan.

The bag is lined with an old t-shirt. I sewed the lining onto the top of the crocheted piece rolling it a few times to make the seam thicker. This way it will stay better inside the clenched frame.

I covered the pliers with tape to protect the frame. Next time I’ll try to remember to tape the frame too. The long edge was easy with the right tool, but for the shorter sides I had to use the narrow pliers which didn’t work as well… The purse looks much more sophisticated with the frame. Since I have a few more frames waiting around I’m sure we’ll see more of these 🙂

Vuorikangas on vanhasta t-paidasta joka oli sopivan värinen. Sivu- ja yläreunat kiinnitin virkattuun kappaleeseen rullaamalla vuorikangasta paksummaksi. Levennyksen ansiosta se pysyy paremmin kehyksen sisällä.

Metallikehyksen puristamiseen käytin leveitä pihtejä jotka teippasin jottei niistä jäisi ikäviä jälkiä kehikkoon. Ohuempiin sivuihin piti käyttää kapeita pihtejä joilla en saanut yhtä siistiä jälkeä. Seuraavalla kerralla suojateippaan myös kehyksen. Kehyksiä onkin kertynyt kaappeihin hyvä kokoelma, joten voin jatkaa harjoituksia. Laukusta tulee paljon viimeistellymmän oloinen kehyksen kanssa 🙂
