Serviette monograms, lautasliinojen nimikointia

We've been using linen serviettes in my household now for several years. There is the bother of washing and ironing them from time to time but they add a nice touch of luxury to everyday life. This is the second set of monogrammed napkins I've made, this time for a young lady's 30th birthday. The… Continue reading Serviette monograms, lautasliinojen nimikointia

Dressed up for the Finnish Independence Day, Itsenäisyyspäivän juhlapuvut

This year today, the 6th December, Finland celebrates it's 99th Independence Day. A kick off for the Centenary festivities in other words! We fly our blue and white flag and parades and festivities take place all over the country. The biggest affair is held at the presidential palace where the guests include the diplomatic corps,… Continue reading Dressed up for the Finnish Independence Day, Itsenäisyyspäivän juhlapuvut

Men’s shirt refashioned into a top, kesätoppi miesten paidasta

To prepare for the summer holidays I made this little top out of my husband's old worn out shirt. You can easily make the pattern with a top that fits you - if it's a knit just make sure you take measurements before cutting! * Mukavan pehmeä ja vilpoinen kesätoppi syntyi helposti vanhasta miesten kauluspaidasta.… Continue reading Men’s shirt refashioned into a top, kesätoppi miesten paidasta

Personalized linen, yksilöidyt laudeliinat

Here are some little crocheted motifs to mark linen towels with. We use these as seat covers for the sauna, so it was an appropriate gift to take to our friends' summer cottage 🙂 * Kesätuliaisiksi ystäville vietiin pienillä virkatuilla kuvioilla koristellut pellavaiset laudeliinat. The oak leaf is a design I found on Charlotta's crohet… Continue reading Personalized linen, yksilöidyt laudeliinat

Sewing a tablecloth, pöytäliinan ompelua

Tablecloths are easy to sew - when you have the right size fabric! This time the table was so wide that with normal fabric the sides would not have dropped down properly over the edge. Two solutions: sewing one seam along the middle or adding pieces onto the sides, both of which mean buying twice… Continue reading Sewing a tablecloth, pöytäliinan ompelua

Satin evening dress, satiini-iltapuku

The colour scheme of the previous post continues with this forest green satin that we found for a young lady's evening dress. The black lace is sewn onto the bodice slightly asymmetrically and continues to cover the décolletée. * Nuoren neidin iltapukuun löytyi Eurokankaasta paksua ja kauniin metsänvihreää puuvilla-viskoosisatiinia. Miehustaan ommeltiin kiinni mustaa pitsiä joka… Continue reading Satin evening dress, satiini-iltapuku

Embroidered serviette rings, lautasliinarenkaat

I saw serviette rings made this way in a restaurant a couple of years ago. They were plain linen with a similar pretty button. Easy to make and personify with a simple embroidered monogram. For guests any embroidered ornament would do the trick. Idean näihin helppoihin lautasliinarenkaisiin sain eräästä ravintolasta. Yksinkertaisiin pellavakaitaleisiin lisäsin pienellä ristipistolla… Continue reading Embroidered serviette rings, lautasliinarenkaat

Sauna gear, saunavarusteet

The sleeves of my bathrobe ended up too short so I lengthened them by sewing on some lace. Being one of my favourite colours I had some linen yarn of the same green in my stash that I could use to crochet the lace edgings. I undid the cuff, turned a narrow hem onto the right… Continue reading Sauna gear, saunavarusteet

New curtains, verhojen ompelua

I had to replace the curtains in the changing room of our country sauna after ruining the old ones in the wash. I was going to sew some of my lace edgings onto the old ones, but had to buy some new linen instead. * Saunan pukuhuoneen verhot oli pakko uusia sen jälkeen kun olin… Continue reading New curtains, verhojen ompelua
