This summery post has been in the making for a long time. I finished Barbie's dress a couple of years ago after purchasing a set of 50's patterns but I couldn't portray her without shoes, a sun hat, a shawl... and since I'm into making underwear - Barbie needed some too. The classic 50's style… Continue reading Summer for Barbie, Barbin kesä

Bra construction, rintaliivien rakentelua
After a long break I've had time to make some bras again. These dark purple ones are made with my favourite pattern, the Harriet bra by Cloth Habit. I've adjusted the cradle and cup a little for a better fit and there are slight differences in their construction which I'll explain below for those who… Continue reading Bra construction, rintaliivien rakentelua
Crocheted screens, virkattuja valoverhoja
I took these photos a couple of years ago of screens I made for the house in France that we probably won't be visiting this summer. Lace curtains are a lot more common in Mediterranean countries than back home so I had the idea to crochet some screens where they were needed in the house.… Continue reading Crocheted screens, virkattuja valoverhoja
Lace for pin cushions, pitsiä neulatyynyn reunaan
After finishing my knitted silk stocking project I've had time get other things done too! I'll post about the stocking later, but here are two bobbin lace edgings I've been working on and just managed to sew into pin cushions. The blue one is a copy of a very pretty pin cushion that Greta from… Continue reading Lace for pin cushions, pitsiä neulatyynyn reunaan
Whittling a wooden spoon, veistelty puukauha
I´ve been enjoying the past sunny week sitting outside refreshing my whittling skills. While my husband made planks out of a maple tree with a chainsaw I dug out my old gouge and knife and made a wooden spoon from some well dried hard birch. * Olen mieheni kanssa nauttinut aurinkoisista kevätpäivistä liiterin edustalla puutöitä… Continue reading Whittling a wooden spoon, veistelty puukauha
Silk stocking continued, silkkisukka etenee
Silkkisukkaprojekti on edennyt parhaimmillaan 20 kerroksen päivävauhtia. Kantalapun valmistuttua kerroksia on kertynyt 734, aikaa kulunut noin 220 tuntia, keskimäärin 2,5 tuntia neulomista päivässä ja vähän vajaa 18 minuuttia per kerros. Sukkaprojektini on osa Aalto-yliopiston tutkimusprojektia josta YLE:n tiedetoimittaja Anniina Wallius kirjoitti pari viikkoa sitten pitkän jutun. Se julkaistiin YLE:n nettisivuilla naistenpäivänä ja kuvitus on minun… Continue reading Silk stocking continued, silkkisukka etenee
Dressing up for the 17th century, 1600-luvun vaatteissa.
Here's my son and his girlfriend posing in their 17th century re-enactment gear 🙂 Both have hand sewn their outfits themselves, out of wool and linen cloth with unbleached linen thread and using the patterns and methods of that era. The coif or cap and my son's cuffs and collar are my contribution. (See reference… Continue reading Dressing up for the 17th century, 1600-luvun vaatteissa.
Silk Stocking project – getting started, Silkkisukkaprojektin aloitus
I finally got to knitting the actual silk stocking for the citizen science project I'm taking part in. Our aim is to replicate stockings from 1650 found in a tomb in the Turku Cathedral. The original pair of stockings is currently on show at the Turku Castle in an exhibition called A Few Words about… Continue reading Silk Stocking project – getting started, Silkkisukkaprojektin aloitus
Gingerbread toy shop, Piparkakkulelukauppa
This year's gingerbread house is a toy shop, dedicated of course to my two month old granddaughter 😍 Toys in the window display and some bigger items on the shelf behind the counter. Above the shop is the living room, ready for the Christmas feast. * Tänä jouluna tein piparkakkutalosta lelukaupan kaksi kuukautta vanhan pojantyttäreni… Continue reading Gingerbread toy shop, Piparkakkulelukauppa
Comfort shawl, lohtuhuivi
I have kept busy although you might not think so considering the frequency of my posts! I have finally started knitting the historic silk stocking I mentioned in a previous post and will be telling you how that's going shortly. There are many more projects I want to share so I'll just have to find… Continue reading Comfort shawl, lohtuhuivi
